There are many people who tell you the magic rules for growing your Pinterest account. However, as any marketer knows, there are no magic rules that grow a business, only hard work. However, that being said, there are some tools that can really help if you use them correctly.
At the end of 2014, I decided that I needed to focus on Pinterest as a promotional venue for my online efforts. Google was being erratic and I couldn’t rely on it for steady traffic to my sites. That had not always been the case. For a long time, Google was the best way for traffic to find me without a lot of other promotion. I had sporadically used Twitter and Facebook, but not in any concentrated way. Since many of my topics are visually oriented, Pinterest seemed like a good place to focus.
I started out reading a lot about Pinterest and joining some groups to see what other people were doing. I had a Pinterest account already, but hadn’t done much with it. There were about 600 followers, but I hadn’t been actively posting. Once I got serious, I wanted to grow the account exponentially to get as much traction from it as possible. As I learned more about Pinterest, I knew I needed both followers and repins.
After a few months of pinning on my own, I decided to look at schedulers. I tried several including Tailwind. They offer a free service to try it out. I scheduled pins for free for a few weeks to learn how to use the platform. I liked it so much that I signed up for the lowest member level at $9.99/mo. With that fee level, I could schedule as many pins as I wanted. Eventually, after a few months, I signed up for a year which gave me 4 months free. For the amount of pinning that I do, this is the perfect level for me. I have now been on Tailwind for about a year and a half, and I can say that it is one of the best decisions I have made for my business in the last two years. In 2015, my follower count went from the original 600 to over 6000, and it has not stopped growing since.
Why I Like Tailwind
1. Customer Service
Tailwind has some of the best customer service I have ever seen. I had some goofy problems with the platform when I upgraded from monthly to yearly fee, and they straightened it out cheerfully. Straightening it out meant that they had to refund me a bunch of money, and they made the process super easy. It is hard to find that kind of customer service anymore.
2. Developing Technology
As we are reminded constantly, the internet and how it works changes literally every day. Keeping up with changes is hard, and many companies struggle with this issue. Tailwind is always working to improve their platform and technology. They have made lots of improvements since I started with them to accommodate internet and Pinterest changes.
3. Ease of Use
Scheduling pins is easy, and you can adjust your schedule any time. Tailwind suggests times that match when your followers are active. You can use those suggestions or customize your own schedule.
4. Scheduling in Advance
I can set up schedules for days or weeks in advance. If I know that I will be busy or out of town, I schedule pins ahead of time so I will not miss out on opportunities.
I have common themes that I pin to on my profile. For instance, I have a steampunk site which I promote to several steampunk boards. I set up a steampunk list on my Tailwind account, so I just need to pull up the list and quickly choose which boards to pin to. It saves on so much time.
I can continuously shuffle pin order on my schedule as I add more pins. I do this often with pins from other people’s sites. But I can also lock in the times to pin other pins that do not get shuffled.
7. Board Updates
Tailwind updates your board list as you add and remove boards. This process is generally a day or so behind Pinterest, and there have been a couple of glitches, but again the customer service team was awesome when I contacted them.
8. Tracking Pins and Repins
Since my goals surround followers and repins, I can manage and track both on Tailwind. Tailwind shows me a lot of metrics that I can compare for testing and growth. If I upgrade my account, I can get even more information, but for now I am satisfied.
9. Domain Pins
My only real issue with Tailwind is that I have more than one domain that I am tracking, and I can only track one on my account. There are some options I can take to track more but I don’t want to do that right now. Even with that drawback, I still get a lot of information from my account that helps me with all of my domains.
10. Other Features
Tailwind offers other features that I do not really use including finding more content for pins and optimizing pins. They seem to be having beta testing on one feature or another often, and new changes have been good so far.
I do love using Tailwind. I use it just about every day, and it is a great platform. I highly recommend that you try it out if you are a regular pinner for business. Why not? It is free to try! Learn more or try it out here.
