When Etsy first opened up its platform, I was one of the first users. I established a store and sold my jewelry, and over time some of my paintings. Eventually, I no longer had a reason to keep a store, but Etsy continued to grow and develop. It has become an excellent site for both handmade and vintage items, and now also allows sellers to post downloadable files for sale. Since printables have become a great way for people to save money on invitations and many other things, this has been another smart move on Etsy’s part.
For a long time, there was no way to promote Etsy if you were not a member, however they now have an affiliate program. The affiliate program is run through Affiliate Window, an international company, which means that you can join it if you live in other countries outside the United States. I joined the affiliate program late in 2015, and I have been thrilled with the opportunities to broaden my income streams. Etsy is a great fit for several of my sites, and I like the idea of supporting independent artists and craftsmen. While I can only earn a small percentage from each sale, Etsy is so popular with buyers that I accumulate sales rapidly.
They do have to approve you for their program, and you cannot join if you are an Etsy seller. I find that I do the best with direct product links, because even if the products are sold, the links stay live and direct the buyer to alternative products. They have very nice banners that you can post on your sites as well or promote through social media.
I highly encourage you to investigate this opportunity for your own website, and see if it is a good fit for you. To apply, you need to go to Affiliate Window first, then apply within their site to Etsy. I have been having a lot of fun adding handmade and vintage items to my sites. I hope you find yourself doing the same.
